Sta's first single "In Living Colour" announces his arrival on the scene as one of the most promising new producers around. Chainsaw synths, stuttering cut-up vocals and a relentless beat that doesn't quite characterise this debut offering, released by Marine Parade in March 2008. Backed with the b-side "Sex" and a huge remix by the venerable D.I.M., this is banging electro made for the club.

Sta, aka Stu Freen, is based out of Toronto, Canada. But geography doesn't have much to do with his quick rise to prominence. In fact, when Sta was crafting his first bootleg remixes and original tracks he was working out of a small college town a couple hours away from any major cities, where there was practically no electronic music scene at all. Sta is a product of the digital age, where music blogs and file trading sites allow for instant distribution around the world. "It was pretty wild," he explains: "I had just finished a remix of Timbaland's 'Give it to Me' and sent it to a couple friends on the internet before heading off on vacation. By the time I got back, the track had been posted to a bunch of popular blogs and was being downloaded thousands and thousands of times." This track, followed by an early cut of In Living Colour spread around the net and between DJs at an alarming rate. Internet hype turned to real world hype as Sta connected with like-minded DJs and producers all over, including Adam Freeland who took a liking to his style of heavy beats and sliced up vocals.

As remix requests poured in, Sta took his show on the road and started rocking parties from Montreal to LA alongside acts like Duke Dumont, VND/LSM and of course the Marine Parade crew. His equal love for both pop song-writing and furious beats has made crowds all over go nuts. The production quality didn't let up either, with him turning in floor filling remixes for the likes of The Crystal Method, Tommy Trash, and Hail Social. Now, he looks poised for success. Currently hard at work in the lab working on his second EP, 2008 is shaping up to be quite the year for Sta.
